FLATBLASTER

One suit. One shaft. All the way down.

Turrican on the family computer meant shooting walls nobody else would shoot, just in case, and a boss that filled the whole screen. FLATBLASTER brings that back: one pilot in the last BLASTER rig, dropping from orbit into a dying mining planet. The tall screen is the shaft, and you go all the way down it, shooting.

Down the shaft.

KESTREL dropping through the rock, the gun going in eight directions, the lance sweeping round. At home, somebody will be leaning over your shoulder telling you where the secret is.

The mining world went dark. Somebody has to go down.

ORVAL went dark. GLOAM, its mining mind, turned its drills inward and is boring a city of machines down to the planet's heart. KESTREL, pilot of the last BLASTER rig, drops from the orbital ring into the shaft.

Ten areas in five worlds: the station ring, the drop shafts of the mine, the floodworks with their acid and rising water, the spore garden, and the core. Every area has six secrets, three miners asleep in stasis pods, and a clock. Twice you climb instead of fall: once ahead of rising water, once ahead of a collapse.

Two ways down.
One harder way back.

The long one

One player

Ten areas, five worlds, five bosses and the escape at the end. Three lives, three continues, and a high-score table with initials. Whoever presses fire plays, from either end, and the picture turns to face them.

Taking turns

Two players

A pilot at each end, each with their own lives, score, gun and progress. Lose a life and the turn passes, and the picture turns to face the other end.

After the ending

Loop 2

Beat GLOAM and it starts again, harder: tougher enemies, shorter clocks, and every enemy bullet splits once. Marked on the high-score table, for those who make it.
