FLATFRONT
Remember holding your breath at midnight, waiting for a guard's back to turn? FLATFRONT is that, on the table: occupied Norway, winter 1943, one man and fifteen nights. Ravn breaks out of a prison camp and crosses the country in the snow, sneaking, crawling, hiding in the hay and taking guards down from behind without a sound. One of you at the stick, and whoever sits across the table leaning in to whisper "crawl. Now."
Three and a half minutes.
Dombås at night: the goods wagon, the officers' train taking on water, and Ravn down in the snow beside it. The drawings are in the officers' car, and the train leaves in three and a half minutes. Then back to the start, the prison camp at Falkvang, slipping past the guards on their rounds. Somebody at the table will be counting the seconds out loud.
Real gameplay, straight off the table's screen.
Falkvang, February 1943. They took his radio.
Tonight Ravn takes his way out of the prison camp at Falkvang. The wire cutters are hidden by the woodpile under the tower, the searchlight sweeps the snow, and a guard walks the inside of the wire with his dog. After that: the forest in a prisoner's rags, a farm searched at first light, Sigrid at the old sawmill, and the Linge men down from England with a plan.
Fifteen nights, one after another, across occupied Norway to the plant at Mørkfoss and the heavy water inside it. Each one is a place you look down into like a handmade miniature on the table: snow falling, lamps burning, torches swinging, the guards walking their rounds. You read them, the light and the snow, and you get through unseen.
Fifteen nights,
one after another.
The journey
From the prison camp at Falkvang to the ferry on Lake Mjåvatn: a forest, a farm, a sawmill, a village under curfew, a frozen lake, a gorge, Bergen harbour, a villa, the train at Dombås, the plateau in a storm, a convoy, a fjord, the plant at Mørkfoss. Each night opens with four lines of what's at stake, and the table starts where the last player got to.
Any night again
At the start of a night, push the stick left or right to pick any night you've reached. Caught, and the night starts again.
Ghost, silent, made it
Every night is rated: GHOST if you were never seen, SILENT if no alarm went off, MADE IT if you simply got out. The table keeps your best for each one.
